This publication from the Bachué Publishers is a study by the art historian Christian Padilla of the little known early work by the great artist from Antioquia, Fernando Botero. Fernando Botero - The search for style: 1949-1963 recounts the artist’s initial training during his youth and the development of his particular style of painting following a close study of different influences, such as Mexican muralism, abstract expressionism and pop art.

It had been assumed that there was nothing left to say about Fernando Botero; yet Padilla’s book takes a fresh look at the artist and rediscovers the avant-garde painter who made a name for himself with his vigorous brushstrokes in the 1950s and 1960s. The research is complemented by numerous unedited images of Botero’s work, revealing 200 color-filled pages on this previously unknown period of the Colombian artist’s life, who is, indeed, the most important Colombian artist of all time.
